RECHARGE THE BATTERY

Now before you start thinking here she goes again with the mobile phone lark, please read on…

There have been a lot of discussions to whether mobile phones should be allowed in classrooms – if they were put to good use as an educational tool both teacher and student would benefit, right?

I was asked by a friend and colleague of mine to expose the following as to help get votes for the following project (see above via YouTube video), of course I said yes but could have changed my mind ’cause I didn’t really know what I was letting myself into lol but like you who is reading this now I read on and I really liked the idea, especially anything that has to do with technology and or mobile phones – if only they were about when I was a teen, no doubt I would have been top of the class, but I wasn’t haha..
So these kids are our future, so I ask you readers to vote for them by clicking here if you scroll halfway down the page you will find Recharge the battery and instructions on how to vote.

So what are you waiting for? Go vote for the kids of Saltash Community School and thank you!!!

  1. It seems that I missed voting.

In regards to the cell phones in the classroom, I don’t believe that repression of technology is very forward thinking, though my administration does not agree.

  3. Hi Aniya

I really enjoyed this video. I was drawn to your blog by some of the tweets I’ve seen you send out and was curious to see what was going on here.

Did you do the filming/editing? It’s punchy, but well-paced. I dabble a bit in video and appreciate the style.

The kids in the film are adorable and it seems like their classes are stimulating in a very modern way. Love the way the teacher was guiding them to work with other groups and bounce back and forth. He never gave an answer but encourage them to find the answers independently through collaboration. Awesome. Reminds me of my favorite sociology professor in college whose opinion we NEVER knew. :)

    Thanks for sharing. Cheers, brad

  4. Honestly I have mixed feelings. There are so many variables and implications to take into consideration with this project. However, no doubt it is a very innovative idea. I must admit the teacher has an excellent approach. Overall the video just makes you want to dive in and go for it. Nonetheless, I’m not completely sure students today are ready for this kind of freedom. Either way thanks for sharing.

  5. Mobile phones are in the classrooms anyway even though they aren’t supposed to be. They’re in the kid’s pencil cases or pockets and they’re using them under the desk for all sorts of distracting things when you’re not looking, so if they can be used for educational purposes all the better.
