VISUAL LEARNING
Do you remember playing charades? With the new digital era we are now seeing various forms of this type of game. One of the latest Sketchwfriends is a great example of this. Xlabs the makers of Sketchwfriends:
They say “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Are you one of those people who can conjure up a picture for just about any word? Then it’s time for you to “Sketch W Friends!”.

The object of the game is to draw a picture whilst others guess your sketch, all this within a time limit, so as you can imagine you have to be quick to sketch and as not all people are the latest Van Gogh imagine some of the images you see, even funnier are reading some of the answers people write, personally I have been in fits of laughter over it.

I have been having continual feedback from the developers of the game, who are very supportive, future versions will include other languages, French, Italian, Dutch and Spanish just to name a few, another popular request is to have private rooms so you can invite friends. Once this feature is introduced I see it being very productive especially for us English teachers, as then we can invite groups of students. Visual based lessons are always effective plus the fact students will have fun too – or using this an an icebreaker lesson, especially for those of us who also teach online. I can see future features expanding, thus making it popular to an even wider audience. Another welcomed feature is the fact it is cross platform, and finally the developers have also included RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook, so the game is swarming with BlackBerry users at the moment. Android and Apple users can download the app here and here

Of course if any of you out there are looking for an alternative I love what the PlayBook has to offer for my personal needs, primly for the multitasking capabilities and communication, I have tried them all, and although lacking in some departments things have been getting much better after a recent OS update. Take a look!

I’d love to hear your feedback on this one, whether you have that streak of Picasso in you, or not. I don’t for one, but remember playing and watching this game on tv as a child. it’s a classic you can’t go wrong. Enjoy!
